Friends Watching Fish

Don’t part with your illusions.
When they are gone, you may still exist,
but you will have ceased to live.

Mark Twain

I like illusions. There’s an illusion in this painting. Something not immediately obvious.

You see the dancing fish. You see the hovering dragonflies and the purple water lilies. But now, look at those swashes of free-form aquamarine… are they just shadows on the surface? …or do they shoe two people reflected in the fish pond? (Answer: I was taking a photo and my son was standing beside me.)

Illusions aren’t necessarily tricks on us. They can be the rose-colored glasses that keep us from seeing ugliness and allow us to move forward, cheerfully, into success.

Illusion isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes what you don’t know won’t hurt you or hold you back.
