May You Have Light

Behold the humble mangrove – Living in that magical estuary space between the ocean and the land.  And in that half-earth, half-water environment it creates a world all its own.  While the mangrove could easily grow in fresh water, it can’t compete with other water flora.  Here in the salinity, it’s the alpha plant. It’s roots provide protection for all manner of small creature and hold the beach in place during tides and storms. It’s branches provide homes for the water birds and shade from all from the harsh daily sunshine.

It is said that during magical winter nights, when the rest of the world is celebrating the coming of the new year, Mother Nature takes time out to honor this humble, hard-working tree, as a star among all living things.
