I originally designed this as a Florida holiday card. Little did I know how much young people would read into it.
One young man told me this was the “marine nativity.” As he saw it, the animals graciously showed up for the Christ child – so why wouldn’t people show up for the birth of other sentient creatures? I imagine he saw the hovering parent dolphins as the cetacean version of Mary and Joseph.
Isn’t art grand? It allows us to use our imaginations to tell our own story.
And that is a sacred gift, isn’t it?
