Three for Dinner

I have a lovely fish pond in my backyard. My vision when we first installed it was to a peaceful Zen koi pond. If you haven’t purchased koi lately, you need to know that they are an expensive proposition. Carefully bred for color and characteristics, koi are an oriental art form.

Unfortunately, Florida cranes and herons regard them as sushi. I lost a fortune in fish until I realized the appetite and persistence of these birds. One New Year’s Day, I came out and there were three of them dining! Ouch!

Today I raise hearty (cheap) goldfish that seem to be much more clever about hiding under lily pads than their pedigree relatives. Just another way we compromise with nature I suppose.
