The lotus plant grows in deep mud. In the midst of muck and dirty water it finds its nutrients and eventually brings forth one of the most beautiful flowers in the world. In many Eastern cultures the lotus blossom is regarded as a symbol of purity, enlightenment, self-regeneration and rebirth. I try to remember this analogy every time I grow impatient with the process of my life and feel like I am stagnating.
For the Buddhists, the lotus represents the awakening of consciousness – a process also associated with the seventh chakra. This energy center, located at the top of the head, can be stimulated through yoga and meditation.
When I am most centered and clear, I’m aware that my thoughts send a positive vibration through the rest of my life. This only seems to happen when I quit struggling long enough to let the muddy water become still.
Y’know, being a flower isn’t as easy as it looks.
